How it works

What schema markup does

Schema is a standard vocabulary that describes your business in a format search engines read directly. Without it, Google has to guess your address, phone number and opening hours from page text. With it, you are telling Google explicitly, which improves how confidently you appear in local results and makes you eligible for rich results in search.

Which type should you choose?

Pick LocalBusiness if customers visit you or you serve a defined area, shops, clinics, contractors, agencies. Pick Organization if you have no public premises. The more specific subtypes (Store, Restaurant, MedicalClinic, EducationalOrganization) give Google clearer context, so use one if it genuinely fits. When in doubt, LocalBusiness is safe.

Where to put the code

Paste it inside the <head> of your page, wrapped in a script tag with type="application/ld+json". On WordPress, most SEO plugins have a field for custom head code, or you can add it to header.php in a child theme. Put it on your homepage and your contact page at minimum. Your NAP — name, address, phone — must match your Google Business Profile exactly, character for character, or the mismatch works against you.

One important warning about review stars

Do not add aggregateRating or review markup describing your own business on your own website. Google classes that as self-serving review markup: pages using LocalBusiness or Organization schema with self-hosted reviews are ineligible for star rich results, and fabricated review counts risk a manual penalty. Stars in search come from your Google Business Profile or from genuine third-party review platforms. This generator deliberately does not produce review markup.

FAQs

Common questions

Is this schema generator free?
Yes, entirely. It runs in your browser, nothing is sent to our server, and there is no signup.
Will schema markup improve my Google ranking?
Not directly, but it makes you eligible for rich results, which measurably improves click-through rate. FAQ rich results in particular perform far better than a plain listing.
How do I check the code works?
Paste your page URL into Google's Rich Results Test after publishing. It will confirm the markup is valid and show which rich results you qualify for.
Can I add star ratings to my schema?
Not for your own business on your own site. Google ignores self-serving review markup and fake counts risk a manual action. Collect real Google reviews instead. That is what actually shows stars.
